Welcome to Podcasting for Solopreneurs and FAQ Friday, where I answer a podcasting question in 5 minutes or less!
Today’s question is….Why Don’t I See an Apple Podcasts Review? | Podcasting Ratings & Reviews.
I see this question come up all the time in Facebook Groups…someone tells you they left you a podcast review, but you pull up your podcast on Apple and you don’t see it! What the heck?
There are 3 reasons that you might not see a review.
The first reason is that it might be too soon. Reviews can take up to a week to show up. It’s tough to be patient, I know, but hang in there. If you’re asking people to write reviews to enter a giveaway or something, I highly recommend asking folks to take a screenshot before they press that submit button. Their screenshot can serve as their proof of review since it can take a while for the review itself to show up.
The second reason is that you can only easily see Apple Podcasts reviews for the country where you are currently located. So, if you’re located in the U.S. but someone writes you a review in Australia, you can’t easily see that.
I say easily, because in theory, you can go into the back end of your Apple Account and see reviews from other countries. But, that’s a really cumbersome process, and it seems like more often than not, my students and I get a message that an error occurred when we try to do this. So, that’s frustrating.
And, reason number 3 is that reviews get randomly removed. Neither you the podcaster or the reviewer gets a notification that the review was removed, so if you have a lot of reviews, you might not notice if this happens. But, if you only have a few precious reviews, or you’re looking for a specific one, you may notice that one has been removed.
This has happened to a couple of reviews for me from specific people. The reviews were there and then all of the sudden they weren’t. There was nothing inappropriate or weird in them, so I have no idea why they were removed. These particular folks were kind enough to post it again for me.
Some of my students who have experienced this have contacted Apple and they restored the reviews when their team couldn’t identify why they were taken down in the first place. So, contacting support is an option in this case.
If you’re missing a review, one of these three reasons should explain that for you.
